Remember to maintain lane etiquette. That is:
Maintain a distance of at least 2 metres between you and the swimmer ahead of you; wait
until they have reached the flags before you set off from the wall.
If you are holding someone up behind you, allow them to pass. The swimmer behind may
indicate this by tapping your heels.
Be aware of your own capabilities – if you are swimming a stroke you know to be slower
than others within your lane, allow them to take the lead and change places between sets.
However, a coach may put swimmers in a specific order within the lane for a set. Respect
their request.
Do not stop during the length or set you are swimming (unless you are allowing someone
to pass) and make sure that you are not standing in the way of swimmers who are turning
at lane ends.
Lane order does not necessarily mean age or size order! Respect the fact that all
swimmers are working hard to achieve their goals.
