Term Meaning
Regional The Regional ASA Championships and Age Group competitions are held in
Competitions May/June each year. Qualifying times are set and must have been achieved
in either a County competition or licensed meet. Our region is the South
East Region.
Registered All swimmers who compete in galas, Open Meets or
Swimmer County/District/National events must be registered with the ASA. The Club
does this for swimmers who are eligible and registration fees are included
in the annual membership fee.
Results Sheets Results sheets with official times are posted at open meets. Times should
be recorded in a log book.
Short Course An event in a pool that is 25m.
Speeding Ticket Received by a swimmer for going too fast in a time-banded event. Times
achieved count as official recorded times.
Starter ASA qualified official who starts a race, also known as a J2S.
Stewards Club officials (associate member parents) who are assigned to direct
swimmers to the starting place at the appropriate time in competitions or
galas.
Swimmers’ A cup presented to a swimmer as voted for by other swimmers within the
Swimmer club and who they deem to deserve recognition either for help in
mentoring other swimmers, personal achievement, or being an all-round
‘good egg’.
‘Swimming’ The official publication of the ASA.

Time-banded Galas in which the organisers set time bands that swimmers are expected
gala to swim within. Swimmers going too fast receive a speeding ticket and
receive no points. Times still count for recording purposes.
Timekeeper ASA qualified official who records a swimmer’s time in a race. This is the
first stage of the full Judge level 1 or J1 course.
