Association
We are pleased to be able to report that our Association, which had
been inactive since 1954, has this year been re-formed.
At our Annual General Meeting, held in March, a committee of
eleven was formed with the following office-bearers : President, Archie
Rogers; Vice-Presidents, Alan Evans and Stuart Napier; Secretary,
Edith Legge; and Treasurer, Desley Willmott. Later in the year
Archie Rogers was forced to resign through pressure of work, and Peter
Ashley was elected President in his place. Unfortunately, Peter was
transferred recently to Archerfield and was unable to continue. The
Presidency is now held by Stuart Napier, and a new Vice-President,
Arthur King, has been elected.
A Sub-committee of David Page-Hanify (Chairman), Desley
Willmott, Edith Legge and Don Hay,’ has been formed to compile our
weekly newspaper column and attend to advertising.
Our social functions for the year, although few in number, have
been most successful. We held two dances, one in May and the other in
June. To these were invited the present High School Students, since our
own numbers alone were not enough to make such functions profitable.
At the first of these dances we had Tommy O’Connor’s Band, and at
the other Mrs. Piper’s Band. Both evenings were enjoyed very much.
This year’s School Fete was greatly enhanced by the presence of a
group of Past Students who endeavoured to help rake in the shekels.
They were divided into three groups, looking after the soft drink and
ice-cream stalls, and organising a film show of coloured slides. This film
show proved to be a great attraction and all money taken was clear
profit.
On August 10, a delightful afternoon and evening was spent when
we held our Barbecue at Gold Creek Reservoir. On our arrival at Gold
Creek we inspected the reservoir and then embarked on a most in
teresting hike through some wonderful bushland scenery. We divided
into two groups, and for one group of us this hike was somewhat longer
than had been intended; but the encouraging words of Arthur King that,
“you can’t be lost until you’ve been found,” led us resolutely back to
camp, where appetites were satisfied by steaks, chops and sausages.
At the time of writing, we announce that our next function will be
the Annual Dinner Dance on October 11, to be held at the Manly Hotel.
