Occurrence of hyaluronic acid: Connective tissues, synovial fluid

Function: Serves as a lubricant and shock absorbent in joints.

Used: in management of osteoarthritis symptoms

Hyaluronic acid derivatives

1) Several products are used in the management of osteoarthritis symptoms

Hyalagan  and Synvisc 

2) used as ophthalmic surgical adjuncts: (in cataract extractions, corneal

transplant etc….

Chondroitin sulfate

Structure: D-glucuronic acid, N-acetylgalactosamine -4 sulfate,

Distributed in: tendons, cartilage & other connective tissues.
