Uses: Source of calcium (oral, IM. and I.V.), when calcium therapy is indicated

in conditions such as parathyroid deficiency, general calcium deficiency.

                                                Ferrous Gluconate

It is soluble in water (I in 10)

              Preparation:

Ferrous gluconate is prepared by treating hot solution of

ferrous sulfate with hot solution of calcium gluconate.

              Uses:
                                                                              Ferrous gluconate

              • As hematonic and is employed orally or by injection in iron deficiency anemia.

              • It causes less gastric distress than other ferrous salts.

                b) Uronic acids:

              ▪ They are obtained by oxidation of the terminal alcohol group.

              ▪ They are the most important of acidic sugars and occur mainly as hexuronic

acids in plant gums, algae and bacterial cell walls.
