I took roller-skating, tennis, bowling, swimming, Brownies,
ballet, tap, jazz, theater, and baton, but not all at the same
time. More than anything though, I enjoyed our time
together in the car when she would deliver meals to the
elderly through the “Meals on Wheels” program. We would
discuss how lonely some of the elders were. I was proud of
my mom for delivering food and spending time talking with
them. It always made me sad thinking someone would feel
alone or unloved. It also bothered me a great deal to watch
people being bullied.
I got into my first and only girl fight at a slumber party
when I was around 10. Kelly scared the birthday girl Kim into
believing that a gang of boys were going to come over and
hurt us. Kim started crying, so I asked Kelly to shut up. She
asked me to make her. Next thing I know we were wrestling
in the living room. I have found Dr. Paul Carlin to be right
when he says, “A lie is as strong as the truth if a person
believes it.” Anyway, my mom was called to pick me up.
My family began going to a Catholic church when I
was in grade school. I attended Confraternity of Christian
Doctrine (CCD) and went through some of the sacraments. I
don’t remember reading a lot of scripture from the Bible at
church. Instead, we read only certain portions that were
included in the missalettes used during Mass.
