was trying to help me not be self-centered, which was a battle
since I was an only child. She also told me to wait until
marriage before becoming sexually intimate with someone.
We had common arguments over me not wanting to clean my
room or what I would wear, like many other mothers and
daughters.
I got along well with people at school but did have
issues with a boy neighbor on a few occasions. The battle
began when I was five or six. He stole my flip flops out of my
baby buggy. I chased him, but he then cornered me and held
a metal pole to my stomach. Thankfully, one of my shoes
slipped out of his hand. When he looked down, I quickly
grabbed it and slapped him as hard as I could on one of his
arms. He ran home. I never understood why we had issues.
However, as I think back, I realize that we never know what
someone else is going through. I spent a lot of time with my
best friend Dan.
Some of my favorite times were watching my parents
sing and dance together. My dad played an acoustic and bass
guitar. My mother was a fantastic vocalist. The three of us
would sing 60’s and 70’s songs together occasionally. Other
favorite times were camping out on the beach roasting
marshmallows and listening to music with my parents,
aunts, uncles, and cousins. I still love the beach.
My mom and I spent a lot of time together in the car.
She drove me to various classes at different times in my life.
