Each fuel tank has an electronic fuel gauge that is connected to the engine instrumentation for
each engine. It also has a mechanical fuel sight glass fitted to each fuel tank in the engine room
with a basic fuel level gauge. Both top and bottom valves need to be opened to get an accurate
reading on the sight glasses, and closed after the reading has been taken. Valves stay in the
closed position, in case of sight glass breakage.

Each engine has the following in its fuel system:

                          • Emergency fuel valve in the fuel feed line fitted on each fuel tank, to be used
in case of a fire in the engine room.
                          • The fuel feed line feeds the dual Racor fuel filter station fitted between the
engine and gearbox of each engine, with a cross over valve and pressure
                          gauge fitted to it.

      • After the filters the fuel feed line then feeds diesel to the engine fuel filters, and then on to the
engine fuel high pressure pump. fitted to it.

      • Each engine has a fuel return line back to its fuel tank where an emergency fuel shut off valve
is fitted for use in case of a fire.
3.7. ENGINE ROOM AIR SUPPLY SYSTEM

The engine room has two cooling fans supplying ambient air to the
engine room for the engines and to keep the engine room cool. The
maximum air each fan can move into the engine room at maximum
                                     fan speed is 30 m³/minute.
