3.12. BILGE & FIRE FIGHTING SYSTEM

There is a bilge system in each compartment of the vessel:

      • Rudder compartment
      • Engine room
      • Tank compartment

      • Forward cabin
      • Anchor Compartment

The various compartments each has an electrical bilge pump fitted with a float switch to switch
the pump on in the case of a high-water condition. The power switch for the electrical bilge pumps
is on the electrical switch panel in the wheelhouse in front of the coxswain.

Each compartment also has a mechanical pump suction point that is operated from the electrical
switch panel in the wheelhouse in front of the coxswain. The bilge pump manifold is then used to
select the compartment that you want to pump from.

There is a high-water alarm on the dashboard. The wheelhouse alarm is visual, indicating in
which compartment the water level is too high, as well as audible, while the tank space has an
audible alarm only. The wheelhouse alarm can be silenced, but the visual alarm will remain acti-
vated until the water level has dropped to below the alarm level.
