Deep water recovery:

o Crew person to be at anchor locker to recover rope.
o Collect windlass controller and handle.
o Ensure the brake is tight.
o Remove anchor chain lock.
o Connect windlass controller.
o On the command of the Coxswain, commence recovery of anchor.
o Undo rope from cleat.
o Give the rope two turns around the rope drum on the windlass.
o Winch in until splice portion of rope is at rope drum.
o Attach chain strop.
o Release load onto the chain strop.
o Transfer chain onto gypsy wheel.
o Ensure two chain links in gypsy wheel.
o Take up the load.
o Remove anchor chain strop.
o Winch until the swivel of the anchor is on the bow roller and stop.
o Slowly edge the anchor stock into the slide by intermittent controller operations.
o Once the anchor is completely in the slide, stop.
o Remove locking pin from the slide.
o Winch the slide back slowly and refit locking pin.
o Slack chain.
o Lock down anchor latch.
o Release brake to allow chain to line up with cover plate.
o Remove controller and place plug cap back on windlass.

Note:
• On return to base, wash anchor chain with freshwater at the anchor locker, drain water to bilge,
clean out and dry.
• Spray plug on windlass with corrosion guard to prevent corrosion.
