MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH CARE (MCH)
Components of premarital care:
A. Premarital examination. Including: history taking, physical
examination and laboratory investigations.
B. Premarital education.
C. Premarital counseling.
A. Premarital examination:
History taking:
1. Personal history: name, age, occupation, education, address, and
religion.
2. Menstrual history: menarche, dysmenorrheal, menstrual
disturbances.
3. Medical history: cardiovascular diseases, renal diseases, infectious
diseases, tumors, surgical procedures or trauma, venereal diseases.
DM and TB.
4. Family history: any genetic diseases, hypertension DM. heart
diseases and psychic disorders.
5. Kin relationship with spouse.
Physical examination: Complete physical examination including:
1. Heart examination
2. Chest examination to detect any disease
3. Pelvic measurements to detect contracted or deformed pelvis
Laboratory investigations:
1. Cytogenetic studies, complete blood counts consist of white blood
count, red blood count, hematocrit, hemoglobin and platelet count.
2. Serological tests to detect any infectious diseases of bacterial, viral
or parasitic origins.
o Bacterial infections: Wasserman reaction to exclude syphilis
and streptococcal antibody tests for rheumatic fever and
glomerulonephritis.
o Viral tests as: rubella antibody tests, hepatitis tests and
antibody to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
o Parasitic tests: (TPM) antibody test for toxoplasmosis which
can cause many complications during pregnancy and may lead
to fetal death.
