The musical is set in the Paris Opera House in the late 19th century. The Phantom, a
disfigured composer, lives in the catacombs beneath the opera house. He is obsessed
with a young opera singer, Christine Daaé, and he begins to haunt the opera house in
an attempt to win her love. Christine is initially frightened of the Phantom, but she
eventually comes to care for him. The Phantom helps Christine to achieve success as
an opera singer, but his possessiveness and jealousy eventually drive her away.
The Phantom of the Opera is a story of love, loss, and redemption. It is a classic tale
