The cathedral city of Derby and Chatsworth HouseYour holiday begins in the historic city of Derby where we meet the Tour Manager at our hotel in the Cathedral Quarter this afternoon. Perfectly placed for exploring the main attractions of the Peak District, you are free to start getting to know the local area at your own pace. On Day 2, we discover Bakewell, the capital of the Peak District, on the banks of the River Wye. You are free to explore this characterful market town. Our next visit is to Chatsworth House, the residence of the Cavendish family since 1549. With entry included, you%u2019re at leisure to look around the estate which was the inspiration behind Pemberley in Jane Austen%u2019s Pride and Prejudice. Days 3-4. Buxton and the Ecclesbourne Valley RailwayThis morning, we transfer to the spa town of Buxton where we meet an expert guide who takes us through the town%u2019s history, culture, and natural beauty. After free time, we continue to Wirksworth for a round trip on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway*. Aboard Derbyshire%u2019s longest heritage railway, gaze out at the rolling hills, farmlands and small villages as we pass pretty meadows and sparkling rivers. On Day 4, a journey on the Peak Rail heritage railway takes us from Rowsley into the Derbyshire countryside. We continue by coach to the Peak Village. Next, our local guide leads a coach tour of the Peak District, passing through Baslow and Calver into the moorlands to Surprise View. We continue through Hope Valley before discovering Castleton and Bradwell then in Eyam, we learn about its dark history.*Trains are steam-hauled where possible however, due to timetable changes or weather conditions, heritage diesel locomotives may be running instead.Day 5. Homeward boundIt%u2019s time to say our goodbyes as we check out of the hotel in Derby and make our way home.
