3. Nephew of Jammu and Kashmir Minister arrested for
Sexual Harassment on Mar 26, 2012: A Jammu and
Kashmir Minister's nephew has been arrested on the
charges of sexual harassment in Sopore area of
Baramulla district. Two girls had on Sunday lodged a
complaint against Gowhar Habib, the nephew of Min­
ister of State for Roads and Buildings Javed Ahmad Dar,
alleging that he had misbehaved with them, police
said. The allegations by the girls, who are sisters, led
to local residents holding protest against Gowhar, de­
manding his immediate arrest (Source: Press Trust of

4. At Allahabad: Police Constable and BDS student ar­
rested for Harassment on Sep 24, 2012. The
Georgetown police nabbed two eve­teasers, including
a cop, on Sunday. The arrested persons were identified
as Sunny, a constable posted at excise department, and
Ajay Kumar Maurya, a BDS student in Kanpur. Station
officer, Georgetown, Mahanedra Kumar Verma said the
duo was eve­teasing a BCA student. He added that the
girl had, in fact, thrashed them when they passed lewd
remarks at her. The incident, police said, took place
when the girl was returning after her coaching class

5. In Kolkata: 2 youth arrested for Street Sexual Harass­
ment. The 27 year old woman was returning home
from a Hospital, on October 28, 2012 at Amherst
Street, Kolkata. Two of her colleagues were arrested
for allegedly teasing her in central Kolkata on Friday
late evening. The 27­year­old woman was returning

During this period of two years (2011 ­ 2012) a Group
of Volunteers set out to conduct a survey about sexual
harassment in public places in Mumbai. 1,000 interviews
later, they realized how big the problem really is and
how little is being done to solve it. Some Findings of
their Survey are stated below:
a. Eight out of every 10 women in the city are sub­
jected to some form of harassment in public places
every day.
b. The maximum cases of verbal and physical harass­
ment take place in crowded areas such as trains
and railway platforms.
c. 60% of the women admitted to being harassed
while commuting by train and 40% when travel­
ling by other public transport systems such as
buses, taxis and autos.
d. About 30% were subjected to unwelcome advances
from the opposite sex at various work places / Mall,
beaches, entertainment parks, educational institu­
tions and even residential complexes.
e. Only one out of 10 women lodges a police com­
plaint, and not more than two confront the per­
petrator or attempt to stop him.
f. Only two out of every 10 women glare angrily at
