Q7. Describe briefly the insurance coverage,
exclusions and special features of Sheep and
Goat Insurance.
Ans. Sheeps produce 2 different kinds of crops each year,
viz wool and lambs. In order to increase the productivity
of indigenous sheep, cross breeding with sheeps of exotic
fine wool and mutton are initiated.
The Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute in
Rajasthan is doing commendable work in breed
improvement and disease prevention. The Andhra
Pradesh Agricultural University Live Stock Research
Station at Chittor is doing commendable research in
developing sheeps with better quality of mutton. Sheeps
production programs have been approved under IRDP.
Goats provide 3% of India's milk production apart from
providing meat. The National Dairy Research Institute
in Karnal is working for the development of dairy goats.
