Much of the success depends upon the attitude of the agent and how he is able to
perceive the market and product and present it in a manner which is accepted by the
prospects.
Before we discuss the aforesaid changes in detail, it is necessary to mention a point
of caution. The change that we shall be speaking are not equally noticeable all over
the country. It is said that India is not one country. Different areas are differently
developed. The attitude, the social traditions, education and financial prosperity are
not uniformly spread out. Literacy in Bihar is much less than that in Kerala,
agricultural affluence of Punjab and Haryana is much above that of Orissa and
Andhra Pradesh. Social condition of Kashmir is much different than what exists in
Maharastra. The examples that we shall discuss are noticeable in more progressive
areas of the country. However it is also true that even the remote rural areas are
going through social upheaval which may not be very noticeable at the first look.
Radio, television, news papers, fast means of transport and mobility in the people
have quickened the process of change. And it is necessary that we must use these
changes to our mutual advantage.
(1) The changing role of women in our society:
Over the last 50 years, due to increased educational opportunities, women have
become potent force for social, economic and political changes. Education among
female population has increased, though not to the desired extent. Today the lady at
home plays an important role in decision making about purchase of land and vehicle,
investment, children's education and their career building. The number of women
coming to jobs, which were hitherto reserved for menfolk have increased. There is
hardly any area where women have not made their presence felt. A look at the
