Much of the success depends upon the attitude of the agent and how he is able to

perceive the market and product and present it in a manner which is accepted by the

               prospects.

Before we discuss the aforesaid changes in detail, it is necessary to mention a point

of caution. The change that we shall be speaking are not equally noticeable all over

the country. It is said that India is not one country. Different areas are differently

developed. The attitude, the social traditions, education and financial prosperity are

not uniformly spread out. Literacy in Bihar is much less than that in Kerala,

agricultural affluence of Punjab and Haryana is much above that of Orissa and

Andhra Pradesh. Social condition of Kashmir is much different than what exists in

Maharastra. The examples that we shall discuss are noticeable in more progressive

areas of the country. However it is also true that even the remote rural areas are

going through social upheaval which may not be very noticeable at the first look.

Radio, television, news papers, fast means of transport and mobility in the people

have quickened the process of change. And it is necessary that we must use these

               changes to our mutual advantage.

               (1) The changing role of women in our society:

Over the last 50 years, due to increased educational opportunities, women have

become potent force for social, economic and political changes. Education among

female population has increased, though not to the desired extent. Today the lady at

home plays an important role in decision making about purchase of land and vehicle,

investment, children's education and their career building. The number of women

coming to jobs, which were hitherto reserved for menfolk have increased. There is

hardly any area where women have not made their presence felt. A look at the
