The methodology includes the following activities:
Breathing exercises:
The body is in the upright position. Breath is taken in and exhaled through the sound "s-s-s".
The requirement is that the air stream should be uniform, and the sound should be as long as possible. This exercise is done
several times, and then the inhaled air is exhaled with a "tu".
After repeating this several times, the "parrot" exercise is carried out - the teacher sings rhythmically "s-s-s" followed by
"tu", and the student repeats them.
After that, by tapping with foot and hand, the syllable "tu" is sung as a half note, a quarter note, a whole note, etc., taking
notice of evenly distribution of the breath taken.
Sound extraction:
Exercises with the block flute include the description of the musical instrument consisting of 3 parts, 10 finger holes and a
mouthpiece.
The body positionis explained and demonstrated - upright with the head slightly raised. The hands should be free, slightly
away from the body. The block flute is raised neither too high nor too close to the body (at about 45°).
The first tone to be played is the first octave B, which is played with the thumb and forefinger of the left hand. The correct
placement of the fingers on the holes is required, without too much pressure.
Exercises are done with a series of halves and quarters, while taking care of providing a proper pressure of the tongue with
"tu", tapping with the foot/timing and breathing in whenever it is designated. Various rhythmic sequences are then played
on a single note.
