The General Directorate of Apprenticeship and Non-Formal Education was
restructured as the General Directorate of Lifelong Learning (LLL) in 2011 with the Decree
Law No. 652 dated 14 September 2011. Public Education Centers are still providing
education services to all citizens with vocational and general courses within the body of this
general directorate.
Public Education Centers carry out their activities in Education Rooms, Prisons and
Correctional Institutions, Hospitals Requiring Rehabilitation, Slum Areas, Workplaces of
Public and Private Institutions, Buildings of Formal Education Institutions and in other places
where they are needed, especially in Provinces, Districts and Villages.
There is no certain age and education limit to benefit from non-formal education
services. However, age and education level can be sought according to the nature of the
program to be applied.
As of 2020, 1010 Non-formal Education Institutions are serving throughout Türkiye.
There are 990 Public Education Centers and 20 Maturation Institutes in Turkey.
