The Greek Theater of Syracuse is one of the largest theaters in the
Hellenistic world that has come down to us. It was built in the fifth
century. BC from Ierona I and the tragedies of Aeschylus and the

comedies of Epicarmo were represented.

Subsequently, under Ierone II, the seats were increased by means

of stone blocks which gave the theater over 15,000 seats.

Under the Romans, from the 1st to the 4th century. AD, the

monument assumed greater splendor becoming a historical and
archaeological carousel. It has a more than semi-circular shape
with a diameter of 138 m. and it is entirely excavated in the rock.
