diversity and inclusion initiatives for 25 years, or really since the
             launch of my initial publication – the Black Pages of Ohio. As
             we approach our silver anniversary, it’s terrifi c to look back and
             see and recognize individuals like Mara who have likewise been
             so committed to advancing minority business enterprises and
             diversity over the years. During this time, I’ve not only come to
             appreciate and admire the depth of understanding and conviction
             she brings to these topics, but  also  her special ability to connect
             with people of a variety of backgrounds.”
             Thompson received her bachelor’s degree in business adminis-
             tration from Cleveland State University, and she was awarded a
             national merit graduate fellowship in community development
             and management from Case Western Reserve University’s Mandel
             School. Thompson later and additionally became the inaugural
             recipient of the university’s Congressman Louis Stokes Commu-
             nity Service Leadership Award.
             Thompson feels that it’s her upbringing, love of Cleveland, and
             awareness of why we need to make sure the city, its neighbor-
             hoods and residents are successful that keep her focused on
             equity, inclusion and diversity related issues. “I feel incredibly
             grateful to have been supported by as well as worked alongside
             so many wonderful individuals over the years who share a like
             empathetic awareness and understanding of why these issues are
             important.” 
