3 - Profiling²: "What makes others tick?" - On the advantages of knowing people
little small talk to find out how I'm doing, tik- ke and feeling, and then
understandingly explain to me the reasons for the cancellation.
Anyone who thinks that the story is over is mistaken. Because, as I said,
the telephone call did not lead to any concrete result, and so the lady
called me again a few days later: "Hello, Popeye, this is Mrs. Meier! At
this moment at the latest, my mood changed to sheer despair. And my
seminar audience into guffawing laughter. Since then, seminar
participants who know the story have greeted me loudly with "Hello,
Popeye, Mr. Vogelhuber!
Back to Ms. Meier: In the meantime, I have blocked her number. I'm
sorry, but I can't have a productive conversation with a service provider
on a subject that is embarrassing and annoying for me, who doesn't
understand what I'm about at all and who doesn't show the slightest
willingness to build up trust and find out what makes me tick, so that
she can then enter into a dialog with me. During the first conversation,
the "hello, hello" behavior might have been forgivable, but not during
the second call. Based on her experience in the first call, Ms. Meier
should have better assessed my state of mind and taken it into
consideration. Perhaps she would then have been able to pick me up
from where I was standing and could have persuaded me to channel my
hot-tempered behavior into more constructive waters.
From the benefit of profiling² capability
The "Hi there, Popeye" story shows how extremely important it is
to have a grid and an approach that can be used to understand
the personality structure of an interlocutor.
