TECHNOLOGY + RESEARCH
USDA ARID-LAND AGRICULTURE RESEARCH CENTER
The Arid-Land Agriculture Research Center project, built for the United States Department of Agriculture, included the new construction of a 100,000-square foot
research complex. The complex houses three greenhouse buildings, one laboratory, four multipurpose rooms, and a main office for the development of agricultural
systems, natural resources, and interdisciplinary research. The research complex was constructed using a spread footing foundation, tilt up frame, concrete and metal
panel exteriors, and a built-up roof system. The project also included a v-shaped roof design for the recycling and reusing of a rain water collected and drained into
a 10,000-gallon stainless steel tank for agricultural irrigation. With it’s innovative design and attention to energy efficiency, the Arid-land Agriculture Research Center
project met the standards of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Program.
