CHIEF’S MESSAGE
As a forward-thinking agency, we recognize the importance of preparing our officers for the
challenges of police work. With the recent increase in mental health calls, we decided to
improve our abilities in this area. To our knowledge, we are the only agency in Texas where
every eligible member of our patrol division is a certified Mental Health Peace Officer.
Our prosecutors recently helped us
put on a training day on court
testimony for our officers. This
exposed our officers to modern
defense attorney practices and
improved our report writing skills.
Among our staff are certified
instructors in firearms, patrol rifle,
less lethal munitions, de-
escalation, and use of force.
Having in-house instructors
allows us to be more flexible
when setting up training sessions.
In addition to in-
house training, we
also utilize Police
One Academy, OSSI
Academy, and
outside in-person
training courses to
stay current with
modern police
practices.
