FTO talking points for discussion

Can you run code to this?

What is the shortest route to scene from here?

Do you call for a cover? Where do you tell them to set up?
What do you do for traffic control?

Make sure to put on your traffic vest before exiting the vehicle.

Try to get the injured party’s information first in case they are transported.

               Collect the occupant’s information.

Make sure to get policy number, phone number, valid dates and company information for the insurance
               company.
If you are going to need a wrecker, try to request one as soon as you know you need one.

If you have a crash north of Country Club on N Hwy 377, shut the road down at Country Club. Otherwise,
you’re going to have people making U-turns north of Country Club and creating more hazards.

The same applies to crashes just south of Country Club, just north of Harpole Rd., just south of Harpole,
just north of FM 407, Just south of FM 407, and east/west of 377 on FM 407
Most officers respond to the scene first instead of trying to figure out where they are most useful on the
way there. If you’re a backup unit, don’t respond to the exact location of the scene. Instead, look for the
area where you need to start diverting traffic. For example, if FM 407 needs to be shut down on the
west side of Hwy 377, then you should go directly to the westbound lane of E FM 407 in front of CVS and
block it there. Force traffic to go either north or south but prevent them from going straight.
The same applies to any crash of Hwy 377 either north or south of the FM 407 intersection. Stop in the
center lane of traffic and force traffic to go either east or west and prevent them from continuing
southbound or northbound depending on the location of the crash.
