At least one stretch film producer is looking at new technology that will allow them to produce an 80 gauge
replacement hand wrap in the 35 - 38 gauge range. One thing for sure, more and more hand wrap users, and
there are plenty of them, will continue to migrate to thinner gauges in order to control and reduce their
cost for stretch film.
When you consider that full 80 gauge 18" x 1,500' hand wrap costs in the range of $ 34.00 - $ 36.00 per
case, and you can buy the replacement films in the range of $ 24.00 - $ 26.00 per case; it is no wonder that
quality thin gauge films are gaining in popularity. Still the thinner gauge hand films must perform like they
were 80 gauge. And you know what, some of them really do! If you would like to try our PX or PX2 hand
wrap, just let us know and we will be glad to send you a sample. Remember, why pay more, when you can pay
less for the same level of performance.
There is one additional thing that needs to be said about New Technology thin hand wrap films ... and that is
that they are GREEN! Every time you use a 47 gauge 18" x 1,500' PX hand wrap instead of a 80 gauge 18" x
1,500' hand wray, you are taking 14.5 lbs of plastic out of the waste stream. Based on a 48 case pallet, you
are removing 696 pounds of plastic from the waste stream and land fills. This in addition to saving about $
400.00 - $ 500.00 per pallet for your company. Talk about GREEN!
Thin gauge hand wraps are rapidly will continue to grow as a percentage of the hand wrap film segment as
more users wise up to the real benefits of new technology stretch film.

Footnote: This week while visiting a large warehouse in Phoenix, AZ, I picked up a roll of
hand wrap that had been discarded without being used. It was mushy to the touch which
is a sign of a loose wind and possibly the over use of tachifier. Lack of detail to
production produces rolls that cannot be used. I saw other almost whole rolls laying
around this warehouse. Poor quality control translates into a high cost to use.
