sweet, fresh air. He stepped out and laughed as the wind blew in his
face, and the surf tossed and broke in the moonlight.
He walked along the beach for a while, enjoying his freedom, and
wondering what to do next, but before he got very far a dark shadow
moved across the sky, and something huge and black came between him
and the moon.
He knew what it was and turned to run back to the tunnel, but he was
too late. His body was seized by the Flooble’s transporter and he
vanished…. And reappeared in the spaceship.
“Got you!” drooled the Flooble, “My fine, resourceful specimen!”
Jeremiah tried to run, but some weird energy gripped his arms and
legs.
The Flooble walked right round Jeremiah, looking at him with its large
green eye. It licked its long lips with a wet tongue and grinned like a
chainsaw.
“Are you a typical human?” it asked, and as it spoke the translator
changed the sounds into English, “The other two I caught are incredibly
boring! One of them thinks of nothing but newspapers, and the other one
watches television waaaay too much! Is this all you humans do? Have
you become so dull and useless all you can do is sit around being
entertained? You might as well be extinct, or served on a silver dish in a
restaurant!”
