The dipper is a bird that doesn't mind being wet.
In fact, it has been known to build its nest UNDER a waterfall -
not exactly in the falling water, but just behind it!
While other birds go about on land, looking for food, the dipper
actually lands in a stream and swims down to the bottom.
Once there it literally walks along the stream bed, and hunts for
food under the water.
It has to lean forward, and grip the floor of the stream as it goes
along, eyes open, and holding its breath.
If a predator comes along, such as a stoat or weasel, it first of all
cannot smell the nest behind the waterfall, and secondly it is not
very good at scaling a rock wall while being bombarded by water.
How does the dipper know that a good place to build a nest is
behind a curtain of falling water?
The answer? It doesn't.
The dipper is guided by the wisdom which God, who
made it, gives to it.
