Who Are We?

            Pretty good question, right?

Imagine for a moment that you are a self-aware being from
another world, first observing our planet, the Earth.
Hypothetically, let's assume you come from a significantly
different existence, but one intelligent enough to carefully
observe the earth and us, the human beings who inhabit it.

I think you'd see a pretty nice little planet, at least as far as
basic living conditions go. For the most part, not too hot,
not too cold, and obviously a good enough spot for the
natives to be compelled to blissfully procreate (and how
            they do!).

            But what about those natives?

Hmmm...they move around fairly well, have enough
appendages — connected to their bodies and otherwise —
            to  affect  the  world  around  them  to  a  reasonable  extent;
close by as well as farther away, and seem to communicate
on a usable level and at a fairly constant rate and with good
range. They have been around for a number of years and
seem to have evolved to a certain extent and have managed
not to have killed themselves off quite yet. ...And more
than anything else perhaps, they socialize.

But what else do you notice? Let's say you are an advanced
being (compared to us, anyway) and have a sort of sixth
sense for what the reasons are that people are doing what
they are doing. Wouldn't they find so many people doing
things for reasons that seem unimportant and not based on
truth? Wouldn't they see so many of us blindly chasing
things that are inherently useless on a more spiritual scale?
Wouldn't they see many of us blatantly taking advantage of
