For those that do reproduce, the most important thing that
they will ever do in their life is to bring children into the
world and raise them. It simply does not get any more
consequential than this. For this reason alone, it is obvious
that the act, or any act so important, requires much
planning and thought. Having children indiscriminately
could be viewed as child abuse as so many suffer for no
good reason. It is everyone's job to see the truth and play
their part in making sure every child born can expect a
chance for a reasonably decent upbringing.
There are plenty of other situations in which the
perpetuation of destructive traditions are impeding our
journey to seek spiritual growth and evolution. It is almost
impossible to believe that modern people still believe in the
baseless myths that cause the destruction of things that
nature has given us. Whether it is totoaba bladders, rhino
horns, elephant tusks or others of their ilk, this senseless
destruction is a disgrace. We must grow and realize how
ridiculous and destructive it is to chase myths and fallacies
and have the strength to denounce them and affect change
in major cultures.
So why do we, as humans, have such a hard time letting go
of such horrible beliefs? Why do we desperately grab with
a white-knuckle death-grip to hold on to things that are so
destructive?
I think that the answer lies at least in part that so many of
us still haven't learned what is truly important this life. So
many insignificant things cause so much destruction just
because we do not have the strength and will to grow,
evolve, progress, and move on. So many truly significant
things are ignored. Blindly holding on to traditions causes a
