Art and Personality:
Finding Your Style

When starting out as an artist, or even when you’ve been at
it for years, it can often be hard to make something that feels
unique and stand-out. It’s something I’ve personally struggled
with a lot, especially in my music. Granted, there are no new
ideas under the sun. However, it can be difficult to not think
about your art without comparing it to other artists in terms of
it not being as good as one artist, or being too much like an-
other.
So, how do you stand out? How do you make art that truly
represents you? Keep in mind, these are just ideas, not every-
thing on this list will work for every artist, but it should at least
be a place to start. With that in mind, let’s start with some-
thing simple:
Making mistakes
This is by far the easiest place to start. Everybody does it, ev-
erybody should do it for that matter, and it can result in some-
thing beautiful. You’ve probably already taken advice from
the late painter Bob Ross, but viewing your mistakes instead
as “happy accidents” can change a lot about your artistic
