LaST (Learning and Sharing Together)
Now in its 22nd year the Burnham Intergenerational Project has brought together more than 600 children from Years 5 and 6 at
St Peter’s C of E Primary School in Burnham, Buckinghamshire and about 100 residents and friends of Perry House, a nearby
sheltered housing scheme. Each week a small group of children meet with a similar number of older people for an hour and a half
of themed activities. The children all visit several times, with their last visit being a celebration party for the whole class at the end
of Year 6. When in person meetings were impossible during the pandemic, we successfully ran the Project on Zoom.
Based on our experience in Burnham, we have created the LaST (Learning and Sharing Together) Toolkit to share our ideas and
resources. The Toolkit includes guidance to help you get started and everything you need to run your own intergenerational
programme for a school year based on 30 themed modules.
Our vision is to create a network of LaST projects which will help and
support each other, sharing ideas and resources. In June 2022 The
Guinness Partnership joined the LaST Network and set up two pilot
projects with others in the pipeline. In July 2022 a second project
began in Burnham when Lent Rise School developed a link with a
nearby older people’s club. This was followed in March 2023 when
Lent Rise School also formed a partnership with Nicholas House
(Abbeyfield) Care Home.
