iGEN: Exploring the evidence from

the perspective of older people

What is the role of intergenerational learning and practice in health and social care from the

perspective of older people?

We have produced an Evidence Gap Map - a visual and interactive tool that shows the existing research exploring the

experiences of those involved in, and the effects of intergenerational interventions.

We are showing in this map the types of research

that have been undertaken and the types of

outcomes they have evaluated, both for children
and young people, older people, and also any

measures of its impact on the community. We are

also interested in seeing if any harmful impacts of

the intervention have been identified and any
evaluation of their costs, or the challenges in

developing these types of interventions.

There are 500 research studies included in this

map from 27 countries and we are currently

updating the map with more recently conducted
