Operating Guide for the JNN-Q25 Voice Recorder
10.13 Set the function of the +/- button (Menu Option 6)
The +/- button defaults to operate in the PLAY mode as a volume control but it can be
reconfigured as fast forward or fast reverse. To select this option:
• Scroll with the B (-) and select the preferred option using A(+)
• Volume can be increased to level 37 then it reverts to zero Page | 18
• Cannot increase recording volume
10.14 Set Password (Menu Option 7)
The device, as supplied, does not require a password, but a default of 0000 (Numeric) is
stored in memory. The default password can be activated using this option or an entirely
new password registered.
• The password must be numeric (meaning it is a PIN rather than a password);
• There are 10,000 possible combinations of a 4-digit PIN. A brute force attack can be
made but only 3 incorrect attempts can be made before the device closes; each
attempt would take 2 minutes. Thus, a trial an error attack could take and estimated
69 hours. Thus, the device is reasonably secure against unauthorized access.
However, the password could be quickly broken by law enforcement and security
services using sophisticated software
• If you intend using the device for sensitive interviews or to store confidential data,
you are strongly advised to change the default password;
• Changing the password is tricky, so please take care! If you register a wrong
password in memory, you may be unable to access the device: EVER!
• You can reduce the risks of registering a wrong password by deciding on the new
password and sticking to it. This means that – unless you make a keying in in error -
the password registered will either be your new effort or 0000;
• Do not set a password consisting of repeated numbers (For example, 4444) or
sequential numbers (For example, 3456).
To select the option to change the password:
• Enter the settings menu in the PLAY mode by holding A(+) and B(-) simultaneously
to stop the recording and press the two buttons again simultaneously to enter the
settings menu;
• Use the A(+) button scroll down to submenu 7: “Password Settings”;
• Use the B(-) to enter the submenu; this gives two options. (1) “Password On-Off will
be scrolling. Hit the B(-) button and you will be asked; “Input Password”. Use the
A(+) button to enter the first digit of the existing password and move to the next
field by using the B(-) button. Use the A(+) button to enter the second digit and
continue with this pattern of A+ and B- until the four digits of the existing password
are entered correctly. If you have made a mistake use the A(+) to return to the
incorrect figure and correct it. When you are ABSOLUTELY sure the four digits of the
existing password have been entered correctly wait for 5 seconds then hit the B(-)
button
• You should then be asked to enter the new password. Use the A(+) and B(-) buttons
