Personal Protective Equipment
PPE is the last line of defence in the protection against hazards. The
elimination/reduction of the hazard, or control of the likelihood at source, is always
the preferred course of action.
Employers must provide PPE to their operatives. This is not the responsibility of
the Principal Contractor.
Signage detailing the sites mandatory PPE requirements will be erected at the site
perimeter. Other areas requiring specific PPE requirements will also have signage
erected within the site E.g. Hearing Protection Zones.
Site operatives have a responsibility to ensure they wear PPE, it is well
maintained, fit for purpose and regularly inspected with any defects reported.
PPE shall be worn correctly and not be defaced, untidy or in a state that renders it
ineffective.
Co-op asks all contractors to ensure that 5 points of PPE (Hard hat, hi-vis vest,
safety boots, gloves and safety eye wear) are worn, unless a written risk
assessment determines that they are not needed. This risk assessment should be
displayed at site induction.
PPE bearing the logo of other clients is not to be worn on Co-op Property projects.
