That’s Crazy

never got over the relationship. Tyrone and I both felt it was strange

for him to carry around the man's photo, posing at a bodybuilding
competition. Also, there are a lot of down-low brothers to be found

in the industry of his previous life as a stripper. It all began to make
sense; his obsession with pursing women as though they were

trophies, with the underlying perception of being a womanizer, when

he hated women. I was just happy to get this sick person out of the
          office and around me.

The more I thought about Jerome’s behavior, the more I began
to compare his behavior with my cousin’s diagnosis of bi-polar. I
began to realize he was also bi-polar. he had the same kind of rage, the

same pattern of thinking he was invincible, understanding the law
enough not to cross the line, the obsession with sex, the spending, the
mood swings, the depression and the highs, all of these behaviors were

classic symptoms of bipolar. I just did not recognize the similarities.
The difference between my cousin and Jerome was how meticulous
Jerome was about his appearance. Cousin could care less about her

appearance as long as she had her face heavily plastered in make-up,
she never combed her hair and, between her and me, she had a better

grade of hair. The family all knew when she had the face made up with
the bright red lipstick that she was on her high and the rest of the
          world had a better lookout.

The same thought came back to the psychiatrist's comment when
a cousin was first diagnosed “Crazy will pull you into their madness and you
will end up just as crazy as they are.” That is how I interpreted his

professional opinion, what he really said was, “By the end of the summer
