That should have been another sign. Because the Thornburg's had all
the education, they had higher positions in this little church which
seemed to be the entire focal point of his hometown. The other side
of Leroy's family was less educated, and I truly felt they were looked
down upon by the Thornburg's.
I remember attending their church and I immediately felt a chill
in the church because I could see the split within the church. The
Thornburg's sat on one side of the church and the other side of the
family sat on the other side. There never seemed to be any co-mingling
of the families. The image of the Thornburg was always in place. Leroy
had told me earlier in the marriage they did not believe in divorce and
one cousin who had gotten a divorce had been kicked out of the
church. All this began to make sense and helped me understand
Leroy's CRAZY. He had to live up to an image he could never be,
especially not while drinking Wild Irish Rose, but he had Adriana on his
side to protect the image of the Thornburg family name. CRAZY…
Under Adriana's direction, Leroy arranged for the first session
with their pastor. I met him at the church, and I liked the pastor in the
beginning. We had been attending the church for about six months.
We arrived at the pastor's office, and the first thing the pastor said
was, " Giselle you look like you are in a lot of pain, and Leroy you look
guilty." He proceeded to ask if we were born again Christians. I told
him I was born a catholic, and we do not use the terminology "born
again," but if he was asking me whether I accept Jesus Christ as my
Savior, the answer was yes. This is where it got bizarre. He pretty much
