CHAPTER 3
From Job to Career

MP, LLC was a young company that had many black Project
Managers. When I started with KMP they had only 20
employees. This is where I received my best training and was
able to watch the owner build his business in three years to a company
of 200 employees. As KMP grew, I also saw the cutthroat and
competitiveness of the workforce in white America. As KMP grew,
the infrastructure of the company changed, which became
predominately white males in senior management positions. I received
the best training I could have ever received because the owner made
sure everything we produced was of high quality, he knew that because
it was a black-owned company, clients had low expectations and that
he had to counter those expectations.
The most fascinating part was watching the cutthroats from my
little old position until I was thrown into the pot with the cutthroats.
There were four white male vice presidents, and the black owner had
