                 What a Concept! Fostering a Deep Understanding of


                                          Mathematical Concepts




               There is a connection between student discourse and student thinking; and there is
               a relationship between student thinking and mathematical proficiency, identity, and

               agency. Participants will discover how to cultivate an environment that leverages the

               talking/thinking connection to enhance the development of mathematical concepts.

                       Operationally Learning about Active Learning



               Defining active learning for both research and practice is complex and challenging.

               Definitions emphasize that active learning is not direct instruction then reference
               aspects of student engagement, but how do we operationalize these ideas? This

               session will help engage the audience in recognizing how to properly use active

               learning strategies.
