This session will discuss the application of the instructional strategy of Learning
Cycles for guiding students to conceptualize the multiplication of fractions. Also, it

will introduce some websites that help primary teachers create a more prosperous

learning environment for students.

Mathematical Scavenger Hunts – A Gateway to

Interest and Understanding

We have put together several activities to use at STEM events with students in

middle and high school, designed as treasure or scavenger hunts. We believe these

activities are a foot in the door for students from all backgrounds. These can be

modified for different ability levels, and let learners see that math can be fun and
accessible.
