SCCTM PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS NOVEMBER 16 - 17, 2023

               Thursday Session F11 11:10 - 12:00 102B

                                             A Spoonful of Learning

Years of experience in the classroom helped me create an amazing toolbox full of effective
instructional strategies that engage students in learning mathematics. I’ll share ideas that are
“tried and true” to take your math instruction to the next level.

                                                     Interest Level: Grades 6 - 8

               Thursday Session F12 11:10 - 12:00 103
Using Visualization to Support Problem Solving

Acting out the problem, sketching, diagramming, making math models, etc. are vital to the
comprehension and solution process when solving word problems, but how consistently do
teachers and students employ these tools? This session focuses understanding the power of
visualization in math and the simple things that can be done immediately to incorporate and
consistently utilize visualization in the classroom.

Interest Level: Grades 3 - 8, Coaches, Leaders, Teacher Educators, Preservice Teachers
                                                        Christine King

               Thursday Session F13 11:10 - 12:00 104A
Flipping the I Do, We Do, You Do Script

How do we move students from passive learning that focuses on memorization of procedures
to prompting students to investigate and problem solve finding patterns in mathematics? This
session will focus on a student-centered approach of setting up investigations where students
are actively involved in making their own discoveries and putting students in charge of their
learning. Participants will leave this session energized and prepared to implement this student-
               centered process in mathematics.
                                             Interest Level: Prek - Grade 2, Grades 3 - 5
