~Top Teen In The News~
~Her~
By:Tylivia Dewalt
She walking home looking so blue
As she is wiping her tears and her arms are
bruised
Is it true...? The sky is clear and new
She is black in white world, she's looked
over for a white girl
Oh but this is only the beginning
Her parents only yell at her to do the
dishes
Her world and their world are
separated by fences
But…
She was just a little soul
All she knows is to do what is told
All she wants is to be loved and to be
bold
that went out the window when her
daddy went ghost
her mom is asking why, all she can do is cry
she didn’t understand
her dad left her mom for a man
she tries to give her mom a hand
well, she’s left with scars
her mom took out the anger on her and got
Teen Tylivia Dewalt in the car.
Now she is left alone
She wipes her tears and tries to be strong
They don’t bother to ask what is wrong
But what is worse? She gets bullied in school
they pick on her cause her skin color wasn’t cool
Baby your dark brown skin is what makes you YOU
Don’t talk down on someone if you don’t know what they been through
She finds her father’s pistol
She was only a little girl but smart as a whistle
If only she had someone to love her and understand
So that gun wouldn’t be in her hand…
Do you understand?
This world is cruel and unequal
Everyone wants to live to see the sequel
We have to unite and be as one
We have to love each other and have fun
This poem was written to tell a story about a young African American girl who decided to take her life
because of her household problems and also bullying. The purpose of me writing this poem was not only
to tell a powerful story but also to deliver a message to my fellow teens. The message I was delivering was
to encourage them to stop bullying someone because they never know what that person goes through
behind close doors. I also wanted them as teens and as a family to uplift each other and stick65together
through good and hard times.
