The Rule of Law for Democracy 349
It is a leading member of ASEAN, the world’s top tourism
country, and one of the most internationalized nation in Asia with
its global capital city, Bangkok. And no one would disagree that
this country will see more long-term growth in the future.
As the word, “thai,” in Thailand means a free man, desire
and actions of the Thai people longing for freedom will continue
to attract the attention of the world.
And many Koreans who visited this country say that Thailand,
always full of energy and richness, will rise to a leader that will
lead Asia and the world to become more dynamic.
Given such position and potential of the continent, Asia is
gradually emerging as the central axis that leads a global world
of the 21 century.

Many great futurists have suggested that the power in the
21 century will shift from the West to the East, from men to women,
st
and from an absolute power to the people.
The power shift from an absolute power to the people, in other
words, means a society where democracy and constitutionalism
thrive based upon respect for individual rights. This is in line with
the topic of “the rule of law for democracy.”
Now is the moment for Asia to bring the quality of democracy
and human rights protection in the region to a higher level by
utilizing the capabilities and strength it has gained thus far.
Protecting democracy and human rights, and advancing peace
and solidarity in this region are a generational mission that is
presented to all Asians.
International cooperation to promote and guarantee
constitutional rights of Asians will help us to ensure that the tragedies
of human rights violations of our past will not be repeated in our
future.
