The Media Goes Wild

It goes without saying that instantly after the news reported
the child molestation accusations against Michael Jackson, the
news media went wild. At Mr. Rothman's office the telephone
started ringing off the wall, with calls from every news media
and tabloid magazine from all over the world. I remember calls
from London based tabloids and news agencies wanting in-
formation. News personalities came to our door wanting to
talk to Mr. Rothman concerning the allegations. Mr. Rothman
denied all phone calls and talked to no one concerning the
allegations. Their every effort and attempt to get a story, a com-
ment or a statement concerning the allegations were denied.
Our office did not give statements to anyone.
Likewise, the news media tried to locate Dr. Chandler and
his son to get a statement from them. They were not prepared
for the frenzy that fell on their doorstep. Frantically, they took
cover at Mr. Rothman's office and camped out over night.
While the news media was looking for them at home, they
never thought to look for them in Mr. Rothman's office.
The media did not stop trying to get a statement from Mr.
Rothman's office. The telephone rang constantly, the recep-
tionist was told to say that we had no comment. News crews
showed up at our door with cameras ready to capture any-
thing. On occasions, Mr. Rothman would go to the door and
rudely tell them that they were trespassing and if they didn't
leave he would call the police. They would just retreat to the
