Secret Meetings

Immediately after the allegations became public, Mr.
Rothman hosted numerous secret meetings at his office in the
back conference room, located only a few feet away from my
desk. All the meetings were behind closed doors, but they
would always come up for air, sometimes leaving the door
open. That's when I was able to hear outbursts and comments
which led me to believe that the child molestation allegations
were causing Dr. Chandler and Mr. Rothman a great deal of
anxiety. The only one who appeared to be calm was the 13-
year old boy.
While the news media was reporting the bitter custody
battle between Dr. Chandler and June Schwartz, they were all
meeting behind closed doors planning and strategizing. They
were laughing and talking out loud. It appeared as if they had
all joined forces to corroborate their efforts. It was during a
behind-the-scenes meeting that I overheard Dr. Chandler say,
"I almost had a twenty million dollar deal." (I noted this in
my diary.) I don't know what prompted him to say this, but
he yelled it loud and clear. This was also before the settlement
talks commenced.
As one might imagine, the extortion investigation made
Dr. Chandler and Mr. Rothman nervous. They were both re-
quired to go and speak with the investigator about the extor-
tion charge. When that was made known, Rothman tried to
reach Dr. Chandler all that day. When Dr. Chandler finally
returned his call, Mr. Rothman took the call in the associate
