Lead Paramedic
As a Lead Paramedic you are at the highest field level position in the department. You can
take on and train Trainees, EMT’s, AEMT’s, and Paramedic’s. You are also allowed to
recommend anyone below you for an early promotion if you think they qualify, the final decision
however will be in the Director and Co-Directors hands. You also have the experience and know
how to ride alone when the department is short staffed, but this is only as a last resort. If you
show promise in leadership you could be promoted to Deputy Chief if a spot is open. This is a
position picked by the Director and Co-Director.
Paramedic
As a Paramedic you can do all the work of an EMT and AEMT as well as being able to
operate and maintain a defibrillator, and give medication without supervision. You will follow the
ASOP guidelines in the EMS Handbook. Once you reach this rank you are required to keep this
position for 6 months before you can apply for a promotion. Once you apply for a promotion you
will be required to pass a scenario field test in order to get the promotion to Lead Paramedic.
