AEMT
As an AEMT you are allowed to do the same job as an EMT as well as being able to start
an IV line and administer medicine under the guidance of a Paramedic or higher. Once you reach
this rank you are required to keep this position for 3 months before you can apply for a promotion.
Once you apply for a promotion you will begin the training program for 2 weeks, or 120 hrs, taught
by a Lead Paramedic or higher rank. You will be required to learn the ASOP from the EMS
Handbook and pass a short test based on the material in order to earn the promotion to
Paramedic.
EMT
As an EMT you are allowed to check a patient's vitals on scene as well as place C-Collars,
Splints, and Air Casts on patients as deemed appropriate. Once you reach this rank you are
required to keep this position for 3 months before you can apply for a promotion. Once you apply
for a promotion you will begin the training program for 2 weeks, or 120 hrs, taught by a Lead
Paramedic or higher rank. You will be required to learn the SOP from the EMS Handbook and
pass a short test based on the material in order to earn the promotion to AEMT.
