Poor posture may result in muscle imbalances and
excessive strain on the neck, shoulders, and upper
back. These imbalances lead to pain, and soft tissue
injuries and degeneration to the joints. People often
then have difficulty maintaining
good posture for work, sleeping, and other daily
activities. In standing upright with correct posture,
the spine should be allowed to form an āSā curve
which allows the alignment of the ears, shoulders
and hips. This curve needs to be maintained
throughout all activities.
How Can I Prevent This Injury?
Proper work station set-up and proper posture is
important to prevent injuries. It is also important
to build strength in key muscles of the neck and
shoulders. This improved muscle strength will
provide the person with balance, and stability to
perform activities of daily living.
