One major misconception about SEO, is that it only something done on your own website, but in fact
off-site SEO is every bit as important as on-site, and both parts are needed for true search engine
dominance. Off site SEO is all about building links to your website, particularly ones with your
keywords as anchor text. There are many ways to build links to your site, and in order to be truly
successful, you should incorporate all of these methods in order to build a varied backlink profile.
If your site is new and or it is not showing up in search engines yet (search site:yoururl.com to see if
it's in there), then you should start your off-site SEO by submitting to the major 3:
1. Google - http://www.google.com/addurl/
2. Yahoo - https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit
3. Bing - http://www.bing.com/webmaster/SubmitSitePage.aspx
The rel="nofollow" attribute tells search engines not to follow that specific link. For google, that
means not transferring any page rank or anchor text, but the fact is, they do see the link, and in my
opinion having both nofollow and dofollow links looks much more natural. However, to get the most
benefit, we want to get as many links that are NOT nofollow as possible.
There are several ways to find out if a link on a website has the nofollow attribute. You can view
the source code (Alt +V, C in Internet Explorer, Ctrl + U in Firefox), but I find it much easier to use
the Quirk Search Status plugin for Firefox, which also adds a lot of other helpful SEO tools:

It has an option to highlight nofollow links by outlining them with a dashed red line and pink
background. This makes it extremely easy to find nofollow links. The image below shows 3 links
displayed in FireFox using this add-on. The first link is “nofollow” and the other two are not:
