It is very important to use good keyword rich anchor text when building links to your site, but do not
go overboard. Do not use a list of keywords as anchor text, it just looks spammy, and very few
people will click on it. It is important to mix up your anchor text between 3 or 4 phrases to make
sure you use all of your relevant keywords and keep your backlink profile looking natural.
Bad Anchor Text:

Good Anchor Text:

As I mentioned before, it's wise to mix up your anchor text, here would be some good variations for
our Example Site:

Rather than always build links to your home page, it's helpful to build “deep links” to your site as
well. A deep link, is a link that points to a page on your site other than your home page. If you
have a particularly useful article or section on your site, build links directly to it, using keywords
specific to THAT page, not just the whole site. This is a great way to develop alternative keywords
and build some extra traffic, as well as build PR on internal pages.
The best links are natural, which means other people link to your website on their own, because
they feel your website has something of value to offer their users. This can really only be done by
creating good quality content to give people a reason to link to you. If you run a forum or
community site, you can ask your members to put a link to your site on their own webpage if the
