If you are using a forum, blog or CMS, there may be a sitemap plugin available that will handle this
for you. If your using a custom designed website, such as an HTML site, you will need to create on
yourself.
Creating A Basic Sitemap
Relevant Text - Rather than have a full page of links, I like to add some relevant text to
the page, to make it look a bit more natural. If you have a lot of pages on your site, you
can break them down into categories, and put a description for each of the categories,
using keywords when possible. If you do not have a lot of pages, add a small paragraph at
the top that says something like, “About yourwebsite.com” and write a small “About us”
type of paragraph, but do it about your website.
Example Site:
“The SupaGreen.com website was designed to display the exotic plants and exotic
landscaping that SupaGreen is capable of. Please browse the sections below to see what
SupaGreen Exotic Landscaping can do for you!”
There's a paragraph of related text for the search engines to chew on, but if a human
reads it, it makes sense and actually helps explain what the sitemap is.
Anchor Those Links! - Use anchor text whenever possible, but remember to keep it natural, don't
stuff tons of keywords in here, place them where they would fit in normal conversation.
Google Sitemap
